Michael Kachka has over 14 years professional experience as a project engineer. More recently, he has focussed on sustainable development and cleaner production initiatives. He is currently providing program development, project management, contract administration and facilitation services for the Demand Management Planning Project, for energy/ demand projects across metropolitan Sydney.
Michael also has tutored undergraduate civil engineering students in Sustainability at the University of New South Wales over the last four years. Michael has been involved in a range of projects such as waste management and auditing, project management of building refurbishments, research into energy improvements for a large municipal swimming pool, and evaluating best practice approaches for a range of projects.
In his previous work, Michael was based in a heavy industrial maintenance/ overhaul environment as an industrial/ project engineer. In this role, Michael was involved in many projects with various complexity and examples of his work include:
- Project management of a train upgrade program for the Sydney Olympics;
- Engine refit programmes;
- Develop systems and provide awareness training of quality management systems for business entities;
- Undertake a consolidation study for a major rail site in Sydney;
- Modernisation of a rail breakdown crane;
- Operate simulation programmes to assess alternative train set ups and loads;
- Design and manufacture of structural modifications to coal wagons to eliminate fatigue issues;
- Undertake alternative layout designs for workshops; and
- Develop procedures and work instructions for a certification program to quality management systems.
